Day 1

Arrival in Mexico City

According to your time of arrival you are picked up from the airport in Mexico City and brought to your hotel. Overnight stay. (Meals: None)

Day 2

City Tour & Anthropological Museum (Small group)

After breakfast you are taken on a city tour. You will visit the huge Zocalo with its famous Cathedral and the Government Palace with its impressive murals by Diego Riviera, amongst others. To make the city tour perfect, it finishes with an informative visit of the Anthropological Museum which is situated on the brink of the Chapultepec Park. Afterwards you are brought back to your hotel. In the afternoon you have the chance to discover Mexico City on your own. Overnight stay. (Meals: Breakfast in the Hotel)

Day 3

Pyramids of Teotihuacán & Basílica de Guadalupe (Small group)

Today you are off towards the impressive archeological site of Teotihuacán that is situated about 65 kilometers away from the city. It is the largest city of ruins in Latin America covering 22km² and a large portion is still yet to be excavated. You definitely should not miss out on climbing up the Sun and Moon Pyramids, as they provide an imposing view of the “City of the Gods”. Then, continue on to the Basilica de Guadalupe, Mexico’s most famous pilgrimage site before being brought back to your hotel. Overnight stay. (Meals: Breakfast in the Hotel)

Day 4

Mexico City – Puebla

After breakfast you will be picked up at your hotel and brought to the Europcar Office, where you will receive your rental car and be guided out of the city by your Buenos Días México representative. Afterwards take off towards Puebla, the 4th largest city in Mexico and the capital of the state Puebla. It is a city full of colonial charm, history and famous for its location in the middle of four volcanoes. On the way there visit the Santa María Tonantzintla Temple and in Puebla itself, you will take part in a city tour, during which you see all the important sights the city has to offer. As a last stop, you visit the famous city and pyramid of Cholula. Overnight stay. (Meals: Breakfast in the Hotel)

Day 5

Puebla – Oaxaca

After breakfast drive towards Oaxaca. Upon arrival we recommend you explore the historic city center which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will be fascinated by its idyllic atmosphere. Visit the famous Cathedral, the Temple of Santo Domingo, the Museo del Oro and the bustling market. Enjoy your evening in one of the lively plazas. Be sure to try the delicious regional cuisine. Day 6

Tule, Mitla & Hierve el Agua

After breakfast enjoy a quick stop at the world’s widest tree, the Tree of Tule, before continuing on to visit the archaeological site of Mitla with its ornate geometric mosaics. After exploring these ruins continue to the limestone waterfalls of Hierve el Agua, where you can take a refreshing dip in the mineral rich water with a breathtaking view of the surrounding area and the waterfalls. Relaxed and refreshed, return to Oaxaca where you can use the evening to give the regional specialties a try. Oaxaca is famous for mezcal, dried grasshoppers, delicious mole dishes and the typical chocolate from the region. Overnight stay. (Meals: Breakfast in the Hotel)

Day 7

Oaxaca – Monté Alban – Tehuantepec

Today you will drive to the archeological site of Monte Albán, which is situated on a mountain and is one of the most significant archeological excavations in the region. Explore the temples, pyramids and ballcourts of this Zapotec City. Next, your trip continues to Tehuantepec, where you will spend the afternoon getting to know this charming city and its famous market. Overnight stay. (Meals: Breakfast in the Hotel)

Day 8

Tehuantepec – Cañon de Sumidero – San Cristóbal

Today you will need to hit the road quite early in order to visit all the day’s spectacular sites. Enjoy the view of the beautiful landscapes on the way to the Canyon del Sumidero, which at its highest point reaches 1000 meters. Take a boat ride through the impressive canyon admiring its steep cliffs and rare animals. Afterwards drive to the little colonial village of Chiapa del Corzo. Here we recommend a quick lunch break to visit the beautiful church. Finally drive to San Cristóbal de Las Casas where you will encounter your hotel for the night. Explore this charming town in the evening. Overnight stay. (Meals: Breakfast in the Hotel)

Day 9

San Cristóbal de las Casas & Indigenous villages (Small group)

After breakfast, visit the indigenous villages of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantan where you will experience an authentic impression of the customs and lifestyle of the Tzotzilen and Tseltales, who are still living an autonomous and traditional way of life. Visit the colorful „Templo de San Juan“ and spend time with a Tzotzil family. In the afternoon a city tour of San Cristóbal de las Casas offers the chance to visit the local market and other famous highlights. Overnight stay. (Meals: Breakfast in the Hotel)

Day 10

San Cristóbal – Agua Azul & Misol Há – Palenque

Pack your belongings and drive towards Palenque, the Southernmost point of Chiapas. The car ride is mystical, because the tropical forest will be hidden in the morning fog and you will be able to observe how the little villages on the side of the road slowly start to come alive. Your first stop will be at the beautiful waterfalls of Agua Azul, which are situated approximately 60 km south of Palenque and are known as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Mexico. Afterwards visit the waterfalls of Misol Há and walk behind the immense water curtain to a lookout and take a refreshing dip in the pool below. Finally continue to Palenque. Overnight Stay. Day 11

Palenque – Campeche

After breakfast visit the famous archeological site of Palenque. It is not the largest, but it is definitely one of the most beautiful of the Maya cities because of its architectural fantasy and harmony with nature being found in the middle of the tropical jungle. Next, drive to Campeche, where you can use the rest of the day to discover the little fishing village with its colorful houses and extensive boardwalk or simply relax and enjoy a trip back in time in this colonial city. Overnight stay. (Meals: Breakfast in the Hotel)

Day 12

Campeche – Uxmal & Hacienda Yaxcopoil – Mérida

After breakfast, visit the archaeological site of Uxmal, which next to Chichen Itza is the most important of all Maya cities found on the Yucatán Peninsula. Explore, among other things, the Pyramid of the Magician and the Sorcerer, the Casa de las Monjas, Palacio del Gobernador and the Ball court. Afterwards continue to the Hacienda Yaxcopoil which in the 17th Century was one of the major sisal plantations of the Yucatán Peninsula. Explore the expansive grounds and visit the museum to learn a little more about the history of this spectacular Hacienda. Finally drive to Mérida, better known as the „white city, which is where you will end your day. Overnight stay. (Meals: Breakfast in the Hotel)

Day 13

Celestun

After breakfast we recommend you drive to Celestún, a small cozy village situated about 95 km away from Mérida whose historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here you can enjoy a boat ride through the extraordinary mangrove swamps and observe the largest flamingo colony of North America. The rest of the day you can explore the lagoon on your own, drive to Celestún Beach to relax and have a bite to eat in one of the local restaurants. After a relaxing day return to your hotel in Mérida. Overnight stay. (Meals: Breakfast in the Hotel)

Day 14

Merida – Chichén Itzá – Cancún

After breakfast visit Chichen Itza, one of the Seven Wonders of the World and Mexico’s most famous and magnificently restored archeological excavation. Admire the monumental Kukulkan pyramid, which is also known as „El Castillo“ and a variety of other impressive constructions this magical place has to offer. Afterwards drive to Cancun, where you can return your rental car at the airport. (Meals: Breakfast in the Hotel)

  • Upon request, other car rental categories are available.
  • Please note that the Rental Car agreement is a contract between the renter and Europcar. Buenos Días Mexico cannot guarantee short term changes on the part of the service provider nor do they assume responsibility for damages. Buenos Dias Mexico acts solely as a Travel Agent.
  • Since Europcar charges a security deposit for each car rental which increases depending on category, a credit card is needed.
  • The rental car needs to be returned to the Europcar offices as specified in the itinerary. It is not possible to leave the rental car at the hotel. Upon request Europcar offers a transfer to the hotel once the rental car is returned.
