Arrival in Chihuahua
According to your departure you will be picked up at your hotel in Mexico City and taken to the airport, where you will take a flight to Chihuahua. Upon arriving in Chihuahua a driver will be waiting for you to take you to your hotel. Overnight stay. (Meals: None)
Chihuahua – Mennonite village – Creel (Private)
Today begins early! At 5:30 am you are brought to the train station. On the way you will stop at a small mennonite village where you can learn about the community´s unique way of life. You will also visit the mennonite museum which gives an insight into the history and traditions of the mennonite community in this region. Take the opportunity to converse with the friendly people of this community and to try their home-grown products. Your trip then continues to Creel. After a short break you are off to the amazing Areko Lake and the Valle de los Hongos y de las Ranas, where you can observe impressive rock formations in the shapes of mushrooms and frogs. Continue to the small Jesuit village of San Ignacio to visit the famous Mission Church of the same name, as well as an inhabited cave used by the Indigenous community of the Tarahumara. Afterwards, return to your hotel in Creel. Overnight stay. (Meals: Breakfast on the train)
Creel – Cusarare – Divisadero (Private)
After breakfast you are picked up from your hotel to visit the beautiful Cusarare waterfall. After a short hike you will reach the top of the waterfall where you have a stunning view over the surrounding landscape. Cusarare is approximately 30 meters high, therefore reaching the top is not difficult. During the summer months (from June to September) the water is especially clear and inviting, perfect for a quick swim. Afterwards you are brought to the train station, where you take “El Chepe” to Divisadero. At approximately 1 pm you arrive in Divisadero where a driver is waiting to take you to your hotel. In the afternoon enjoy a two hour hike through the canyon. The tour leads you to a lookout where you have a spectacular view of the canyon. Afterwards meet the legendary Tarahumara Indigenous community who are willing to teach you about their traditional way of life. In the evening you are taken back to the hotel. Overnight stay. Divisadero – Barrancas – El Fuerte (Private)
Today you will spend the day in the national park “Parque de Aventuras Barrancas”. First, hike up to the famous lookout point “Piedra Volada” which is the starting point for the day´s adventures. Fly through the air for more than 5.000 meter on seven different zip lines crossing from one platform to the next. It is the largest zip line construction in Latin America and depending on your weight it is possible to reach speeds between 65 and 95 km/h. This exhilerating ride through the air will definitely get your adrenaline pumping and provides a unique view of the mountain canyons beneath you. The difference in altitude is approximately 200 meters. When you reach the last platform, enjoy a relaxed 2 hour hike along the “La Urique” canyon. Your destination is the small village of “Wakajipare” where you will spend time with the local inhabitants. Afterwards you are brought back to the day´s starting point where you will have lunch before “El Chepe” takes you to the next village of El Fuerte. Enjoy the rocking rhythm of the train and the beautiful views. Upon arrival a driver will be waiting to take you to your hotel. Overnight stay. (Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner in the hotel)
Today´s activities also focus on active adventure. High above the canyon make your way along a system of suspension bridges in the national park “Parque de Aventuras Barrancas”. Cross the canyon on a suspension bridge made of wood and rope. Rapel down cliffs and hike along platforms which are built into the rock. To take this tour it is important that you do not have a fear of heights. These activities take place at a dizzying height even for the most adventurous traveler. Afterwards you will enjoy a relaxed 2 hour hike along the “La Urique” canyon. Your destination is the small village of “Wakajipare” where you will spend time with the local inhabitants. Afterwards you are brought back to the day´s starting point where you will have lunch before “El Chepe” takes you to the next village of El Fuerte. El Fuerte – Los Mochis (Private)
After breakfast, begin your journey to the community of Ocolome. Here you will enjoy a three hour kayak ride along the El Fuerte river. The tour leads you through a bird sanctuary where approximately 60 different species of birds can be observed. Towards the end of the tour you can also see some unique mural paintings from the indigenous communities in the region. Depending on the rest of your vacation, you brought to the harbour of Topolobampo, the bus station or airport of Los Mochis. (Meals: Breakfast in the hotel)
