Day 1
Mexico City – Amecameca – La Joya

In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel, the bus station or the airport and be taken to the small town of Amecameca. This town is one of the most important base camps for climbers and hikers in the region and has spectacular views of the Iztaccihuatl and Popocatepetl volcanoes. The next stop is the historical Paso de Cortés, where we will obtain our park permits, and enjoy spectacular views of the Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl volcanoes. We will then drive to La Joyita, the park’s main parking lot, and we will go on a hike over several kilometers of beautiful forest landscapes until you reach the lookout point of “La Boca del Tiburón”. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the volcanoes and spend the night in a mountain hut „Altzomoni Base Camp“ in shared rooms or in a comfortable 4-season tent.  Overnight stay. (Meals: Lunch on the tour & dinner at the cabin)

Day 2

La Joya – Iztaccihuatl Base Camp

After a hearty breakfast, you will hike to the Iztaccíhuatl “Third Door”. Take in the scenery and vegetation on the invigorating hike while your body acclimatizes to the altitude. The difference in altitude on today´s hike is 700 m. Once you reach “Third Door”, enjoy a light lunch and walk back to the hut. We will offer you a very early dinner at 7:00 pm, do an equipment check, and by 8:00 pm we will go to bed. We need to get a good night’s sleep before tomorrow’s climb. (Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner on the tour)

Day 3

Climb Iztaccihuatl – Mexico City

Very early in the morning you will begin your ascent of the Iztaccihuatl volcano which is the third largest volcano in Mexico at 5220 m. According to Aztec legend the two volcanoes Iztaccihuatl and Popocatepetl are two lovers whose love ended tragically and the Iztaccihuatl is known as the “sleeping woman”. After an arduous hike all of your effort will be rewarded with the spectacular views from the snow covered peak of this dormant volcano. Enjoy a long break where you will have lunch (included) and time to explore the summit. Afterwards make your way back down to base camp and depending on the rest of your vacation you will be returned to your hotel, the bus station or the airport in Mexico City.
